NEW EP - JULIANA - AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE OCTOBER 7TH!
9/2/08

Finally, after two years, I've got a new, 4 song EP - JULIANA. I know, I know, two years!? As with my first EP, This Much Is True, I played all the instruments (except drums), so it takes me a while to get new music out there.

It will be available for purchase in one month on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster and every other digital music store in existence - worldwide. I'll also have physical copies for sale on PatrickCornell.com, for those of you that still actually buy CD's. Can't remember the last time I bought one of those!

You can download the title track for free right now at Myspace.com/PatrickCornell. How nice of me.

Also, be on the lookout for some upcoming interviews and magazine and blog reviews, compliments of Maelstrom Music PR. They're promoting my album this time around - I finally got tired of doing all the work myself!

I really hope y'all like it!

CAMP FREDDY (again)
7/17/08

I guess I didn't suck a few weeks ago when I played with the rock star, cover band, CAMP FREDDY - they asked me back. This time to guest appear at a sold out gig at LA's Viper Room on the Sunset Strip. It was a charity event for the bands tour manager, Scott Patterson, who is battling cancer and who I'm 100% possitive will beat it! My thoughts and prayers are with you Scott P.

All the usual suspects showed up - Billy Morrison (The Cult), Dave Navarro (Janes Addiction), Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) Chris Cheney (Janes Addiction, Alanis Morrissette) Donovan Leitch, Brett Anderson (The Donnas), Warren De Martini (Ratt), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Mark McGrath, and a very drunk Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders. It was amazing! I'd love to gossip about what Chrissy did on stage but the YouTube video's are worth a thousand words. I highly recommend checking them out!

I was invited to play on two of my favorite songs with Billy Morrison, Dave Navarro, Matt Sorum, and Dave Kushner. They were Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." The video to the right is of "Ziggy Stardust." Thats Navarro on the left, Sorum on drums, Kushner on the right, Morrison singing, and the tall one in the vest would be me, playing Chris Cheney's bass - thanks Chris!

Check it out!

NEW ALBUM "JULIANA" (update 1)
6/24/08

Finally! I've got a new album coming out soon! It's been exactly a year and a half since I put out my first solo EP "This Much Is True," and my second should be out by the end of the summer. It's a four song EP titled "Juliana." It's got three new songs and a Nashville version of my song Black Beauty - which is from my first EP. It will be for sale worldwide as a digital download on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Amazon and everywhere else digital music is sold. I'll keep you posted over the next couple of months on the progress. Check out the "New Album" video blog on this page for more info.

CAMP FREDDY
4/30/08

Over the course of the 10 years I've lived in LA I've been fortunate enough to play with some of my rock 'n roll heroes. It's rare, however, that I get to play with five rock stars all at once. This past Monday my good friend Billy Morrison (The Cult, Camp Freddy) invited me down to the Camp Freddy rehearsal in Hollywood. Camp Freddy is a rock star cover band whose members include Dave Navarro, Matt Sorum (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver), Chris Cheney (Janes Addiction), Donovan Leitch (as in the son of "They call me Mellow Yellow..." Donovan) and Billy Morrison. At each show they have all sorts of rock star guests like Slash, Billy Idol, Lemmy, Mark McGrath, Ozzy Osborne, The Sex Pistols etc... And they play just about every famous rock 'n roll song you have ever heard. Anyway, the band was rehearsing Rock 'n' Roll Star by Oasis and needed someone to play guitar - lucky for me, Oasis are one of my favorite bands! So, with a nervous smile on my face (while trying to act as cool and unimpressed with my company as possible) I was invited to jam with a very cool, and very LOUD Camp Freddy and was able to cross Matt Sorum, Dave Navarro, Chris Cheney, and Donovan Leitch off my list of "Guys I Need To Play With," I've been smiling ever since :)

Camp Freddy are playing the Roxy Theatre every Thursday during the month of May. If you're in town I recommend checking it out!

Today will be the second internet radio interview/performance I've done in the last week. From 7pm-8pm Pacific Time today I'll be live on the Doc Tremor Rado Show, which can be found at ktstfm.com.  All you have to do is log onto that web site and listen. Doc broadcasts live from Anaheim, CA (just south of LA, where I live) every Thursday from 7pm-8pm. Hope you can all tune in and check it out! I'll be playing a few songs including my new single "Follow Me Down" which will be available on iTunes in a couple of months as well as a video for the song. So tune in today at 7pm!

THE MAKING OF BILLY MORRISON
3/28/08

I'm holed up today in a Los Angeles recording studio working on the forthcoming BILLY MORRISON (of the Cult and Camp Freddy) record. I'm playing bass on Billy's record and will be sprinkling a few background vocals here and there sometime next week. Billy and myself (as well as the recording engineers) are having a great time harassing eachother and eating as much food as we can have delivered in a 12 hour period! Check out Billy at BillyMorrison.net

BILLY MORRISON
2/11/08

I've had a great time playing with CIRCUS DIABLO over the past year. I got to play some really fun shows and meet a few of my rock 'n roll heroes along the way. Unfortunately, CIRCUS DIABLO has gone on an indefinite hiatus due to the members increasingly busy schedules.

Billy Duffy is busy with THE CULT, Brett Scallions is singing for THE DOORS aka. RIDERS ON THE STORM, Ricky Warwick is touring the UK with THE ALMIGHTY, and Rob Patterson is touring with KORN.

So, BILLY MORRISON (singer of CIRCUS DIABLO) has decided to do a solo record and play some shows. He asked me to play bass and co-write on his new album and I've accepted the invitation.

As far as my solo music goes, I'm currently finishing a full length record - should be out soon and am looking forward to doing some shows of my own.

See ya,

patrick

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
1/25/08

It's official, I'm the only single Cornell. My sister, (the TV reporter) Sarah Cornell got engaged this evening atop the snow-capped Rocky Mountains in Vail / Beavercreek Colorado. As I type this it's one of the only times I'd rather be somewhere other than the Hollywood Hills. Obviously the myth that the oldest child is sets the example for the younger ones is just that, a myth, as my younger brother and now sister are off the market. I suppose I have set one example - what NOT to do!

Congratulations little sis!

Vi auguro il la cosa migliore...

NEW YEAR, NEW SHOWS, FRIENDS COME AND GO...
1/19/08

Well, that's it, '07's gone - can't say I'm going to miss it, well, not the bad parts anyway. I always say, "this year is going to be better," but it's not. Oh I suppose it's possible, but usually it's the same drama as the year before. People come and go, bands come and go, hell, best friends even come and go - that's a really hard pill to swallow - it makes me sad. I'll miss them the most. I think it's worse than a death in the family, because they're not dead, they're just right over there, but you can't go to them anymore. I think Greg Dulli from the Twilight Singers described the way I feel best in their song Bonnie Brae, "There was a rapture, so I can never see you anymore..."

My first two shows of the year will be with CIRCUS DIABLO and my cover band the HIGH GRASS DOGS. It's a bit more than just a cover band, though. Three of the four of us are solo artists and we do play some of our own solo material, but mostly we play covers by The Band and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - oh alright, it's a cover band. One of our members, Ricky Warwick, who's got a couple solo records out on Sanctuary Records, is on a UK tour with his old band as I type this. Ricky is the lead singer of THE ALMIGHTY. They are doing a 25th anniversary reunion tour the whole month of January. Have a pint for me Ricky!

CIRCUS DIABLO are playing in Venice Beach at the end of this month at a club called "Air Conditioned." Sounds cold! I've been told they have go-go dancers on my side of the stage. This will be interesting...

So when am I playing a gig of my own? Who knows, soon I hope. I'm recording a few more songs to finish a full length record so that's been time consuming. However, you could always buy my EP, "This Much Is True" on iTunes while you hold your breath waiting for my full length record! (wink-wink).

OK, enough. '07 was still pretty cool. Playing bass on Kendall Payne's new record, Paper Skin, was a blast! And after joining CIRCUS DIABLO, I got to meet and/or play with Alice In Chains, Velvet Revolver, Brett Scallions from Fuel, Billy Duffy from The Cult, and Dave Navarro on the set of his Internet show "Spread TV." Not bad for one year. Can't say '06 was that interesting.

Lastly and most importantly, a special thanks to those of you who supported my music last year. iTunes sent me an email that said they have a check for me!

Hope to see you in '08!

Ti amo monster...

CIRCUS DIABLO / ALICE IN CHAINS / VELVET REVOLVER Tonight!
12/12/07

I've been looking forward to playing the Circus Diablo show tonight for a couple of months as it was cancelled back in Oct. due to the Southern California wildfires. Well, finally tonight, we are opening for Alice In Chains and Velvet Revolver.

I remember being in 3rd grade (1987) when Appetite For Destruction came out and I got my dad to take me out and buy it. Little did I know it would absolutely change my life and scare the shit out of me at the same time. I'd never heard that many cuss words at one time before nor had I ever been afraid of the sound of a guitar. That all changed as Welcome To The Jungle screamed through my Sony Walkman cassette player earphones. Honest to God, I was scared to death and in love all at once.

I also remember Jr. High School when the whole grunge thing happened and hearing Alice In Chains for the first time. I had just bought my first bass guitar about a year before Seattle exploded. Radio at that time was very uninspiring to me, and then Nirvana, Peal Jam, Alice In Chains, STP, etc... all hit at the same time. Within one years time, I quit playing sports, bought as many flannel shirts as Dayton, OH had in stock, and formed my first rock band.

20 years after Appetite and 15 years after grunge, I get to play with a few of my rock n' roll heros.

HIGH GRASS DOGS
12/03/07

Over the summer I held a concert to showcase my songs and a couple other solo artists' songs. In between our original music we played some old rock n' roll covers by the Band, CSNY, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, etc... I called us the High Grass Dogs. Everyone had such a great time doing it we decided to make it a real band, playing a mixture of old rock n' roll songs as well as each solo artists original songs.

The goal is to get turned on to a solo artists' music that you may have never heard of and still be able to sing along to some of the greatest rock n' roll songs you have.

High Grass Dogs are three drunken solo artists, Patrick Cornell, Ricky Warwick, and Luke Halpin and one drunken Australian guitarist, Brett Walker, who get together from time to time and get drunk, play their songs, play each others songs, play other peoples songs, and stumble home.
Check out High Grass Dogs here.
